As soon as 'Citizen' got completed Saravana Subbaiah
had immersed himself in the script of 'Itihaasam' and
Ajith was concentrating on 'Red'. Now that these two
projects have ended, the twosome unites again.
After 'Itihaasam', nobody will even speak about caste
again' - the story's drawing such comments.
2 heroines - one's Simran, the other's an import from
Mumbai, as usual.
Since Balakumaran's dialogues had helped 'Citizen' a
lot, this time 'Sujatha' pens the dialogues.
Roaring Success 'Red' Songs
There's something about Deva-Ajith combination. It
started with 'Aasai' and the duo is continuing its
victory trail with 'Red'.
'Red' has 6 songs. 3 of them are wonderful, fantastic
and whoa!
Tippu's 'Thaai Madiye', S.P.B's 'Red Red', K.K and
Anuradha Sriram's 'Ollikuchchi Udambukkaari' - these
three songs are expected to contribute heavily to the
success of the movie. T.Rajendran's son Silambarasan has
sung a mediocre 'Til Til Italy Kattil'. Vairamuthu had
tried to highlight the speciality of each country in the
song. But loud music and prolonged voice vibrations in
the guise of style had destroyed the lyrics and the soul
of the song!

Postponed
Ajith’s eagerly awaited Diwali release Red has
been postponed to pongal 2002. Ajith does not want to
clash with Kamalhassan’s Alavanthan and Vijay’s
Shajahan and three other biggies due for Diwali. It was
a shrewd move by Ajith as there are hardly any big
movies due for Pongal.
Meanwhile Ajith has already started work on his next
project Ramachandra to be directed by old faithful Raj
Kapoor, who gave him films like Aval Varuvala and Ananda
Poonkatrai during his struggling days. Like Red,
Ramachandra will also be catering to the B and C centres
and the film is said to be a rehash of an old MGR film.
Ajith is desperate to reach the villages of Tamilnadu,
where he is on a sticky wicket compared to Vijay.
Priya Gill, Ajith in
Right
NIC Arts, the producers of Vaale, Mugavari and
Citizen, all box-office hits starring Ajith, have signed
Priya Gill to play the female lead opposite Ajith in
Right. Ajith sports a bald pate for this film.
Directed by debutant Ram Satya (former associate of
Sundar C), the film has music by Deva and cinematography
by Rajsekar. Shooting of the film started at Annapoorna
Studios where art director Sabu Cyril has erected a part
of Madurai town for the film. Salim Ghouse, who was at
one time very popular in Tamil films as the villain,
makes a comeback in this film with Rajan P Dev,
Raghuvaran, Manivannan and Srividya.
Pre-release jitters
Is Ajith unhappy with Poovellam Unn Vasam? Ajith
saw the film at a special preview and is reported to
have fretted and fumed at its director Ezhil. The film,
which was launched almost a year back, does not have the
storyline to suit Ajith’s current superstar image. To
be fair to Ezhil he had incorporated a fight scene and a
song with Yukta Mookhey after the first copy was ready.
But in the Yukta Mookhey song, Ajith looks shorter than
the beauty queen and has conspicuously avoided close-ups
and combination shots. But director Ezhil is confident
that the film will be a huge hit among the family
audience.
