Ajit is the fall guy! – 20/07/2005

Now film producer Kaja Mydeen who survived a suicide
attempt after swallowing 40 sleeping pills (!!) is
pointing finger at Ajit for his bid to end his life!
Mydeen had made veiled threat that he will be holding a
press conference after he recovers. In an interview to a
local newspaper Kaja bhai said: “I lost 8 Crore making
Ajit’s Jana which is my biggest flop. The storyline was
changed to suit Ajit’s whims and fancies and finally the
film was released after two years. Ajit is a sadist”.
Ajit was a sitting duck as he is already going through a
bad patch in his career. Kaja bhai wanted somebody to be
the fall guy and so he conveniently put the blame on the
actor and his film Jana, a matter which is more than two
years old!
Industry watchers feel that Kaja simply does not have
the guts to blame the actual persons behind his present
financial woes. Meanwhile no case has been registered
against him for his suicide attempt.
Actors' fees push producers to suicide - special survey
- 21/07/2005
By Cinesouth
After Kaja Moideen swallowed 40 sleeping tablets, Tamil
cinema woke up. The main reason for producers to attempt
suicide is the deficiency of vitamin 'M' (money) and the
people who have the most affinity to this vitamin are
actors.
When we tried to figure out what our heroes charge for
their films, we grew tired with the effort! The amount
is enough to bring on a heart attack for those who have
a health condition!
Rajini commands number one position even when it comes
to acting fees. If he produces and acts in the film, the
savings will amount to 60 crores! If the same film is
produced by another producer, that producer is willing
to pay him anything between 6 to 10 crores per film.
When Prabhu and Ramkumar asked Rajini to name his fee
for 'Chandramukhi,' Rajini took only 5 crores as his fee.
(He has a large heart!)
Next in line is Kamal. His fee ranges from 4 to 5 crores.
If his 'Aalavandaan' and 'Anbe Sivam' had not flopped,
his rate would have been 7 crores.
After 'Gilli' and 'Thirumalai,' Vijay's fee seems to
soar to the skies like the Thiruvannamalai deepam. For 'Sivakasi,'
Vijay will receive a whopping 4 crores.
With closed eyes, producers are willing to shell out 3
crores for Chiyan. Though the agreed rate for his role
in 'Anniyan' was 3 crores, he saw the producer struggle
for finance. So, this
compassionate Ambi immediately sacrificed 50 lakhs from
his fee and helped the producer out of a tough spot.
After 'Vallarasu,' there has been no great film from him
but Captain refuses to act for anything less than 3
crores. Since his films have a minimum guarantee success
in 'B' and 'C' centres, he does not lack in film
opportunities.
Though he deserves to be on par with Vijay, Ajith took
too big a stride and commands only 2 crores per film.
When he acts for friends, this large hearted actor does
not lay too much stress on emoluments.
Actor Dhanush gets 75 lakhs. For directing and acting in
'Vallavan,' Simbu gets a crore.
Since Madhavan's recent films have been flops, his rate
has come down from 1 crore to 75 lakhs. Bharath asks for
40 lakhs and Prashanth for 60. The one actor who charges
as per the producer is Sathyaraj. Give him 20 to 30
lakhs and he will deliver a fantastic film.
Our actresses are in no way behind our actors. Jyothika
and Trisha command 40 lakhs and next in line are
Nayantara and Asin.

The unkindest cut - 21/07/2005

Filmdom can sometimes be a difficult place to continue
in when others are ganged up against you.
Actor Ajith is perhaps understanding this in a bitter
way. The self-made actor who has no godfathers (except
the fact that his next release is named Godfather), is
now being targetted by certain sections of the industry
and is being made the villain in the suicide of producer
Khaja Mohideen.
The producer, who is said to have taken 40 sleeping
pills and rushed to the hospital last week, has alleged
that he suffered losses to the tune of Rs.8 crore after
making Jana with Ajith in the lead.
The insinuation here is that Ajith is responsible for
his suicide bid.
Ajith, who is in Hyderabad shooting for Godfather, has
however chosen to maintain a dignified silence on the
issue.
There are many loose ends in Khaja Modideen's story.
Firstly, there is skepticism over the fact that he
managed to meet the press on the morning after consuming
40 sleeping pills in the night.
Secondly, he has been making wild allegations against
all and sundry without really substantiating them. For
instance, he is still to name the financier who took
away money from him.
Poor Ajith is copping the blame for no fault of his.
